Young people are at the heart of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs frameworks. The words “children”, “young” and “youth” have been mentioned 33 times in the SDGs framework. At least 10 of the 17 Goals relate directly to the youth and their development challenges. The framework pays special attention to youth education, health, nutrition, employment, dignity, empowerment, security, equality, and young people’s participation in decision-making forums.

n January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit — officially came into force. Over the next fifteen years, countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that "no one is left behind".

Under the Technical Cooperation Programme between the Saudi Human Rights Commission and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the program works to promote awareness and capacity building in the application of human rights approaches in many areas. One of those areas is to strengthen public awareness of and actions called for by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Convention affirms that disabled people have the same rights as everyone else in society.

Last year the UN brought together the five P’s in transforming our world – People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership when member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This has been a collaborative effort by a Committee comprising of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, The Saudi Fund for Development and the United Nations Development Programme in Saudi Arabia.
