King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue signs a memorandum of cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme in order to build qualitative and quantitative indicators that target intolerance and encourage national cohesion.Jan 21, 2018
On Sunday January 21 2018 -4 Jumad Al Awwal 1439H- King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue signed a cooperative memorandum with the UNDP in order to place indicators, as well as develop and build strategies for facing intolerance and limiting its effect on the social fabric.
Representing the center during the signing of the agreement was HE Dr. Fahad bin Sultan Al-Sultan, Deputy-Secretary General. While Mr. Firas Gharaibeh was representing the UNDP as the Deputy Resident Representative. Attending the signing was HE Mr. Faisal bin Abdularhman Bin Moamer, Secretary General of the Center.
On this occasion, HE Mr. Faisal bin Abdularhman Bin Moamer; Secretary General of the Center, noted the cooperation between the Center and the United Nations, which is represented by its developmental program that builds and places accurate qualitative and quantitative indicators for various social issues, which also includes intolerance. This is achieved through studying these issues based on accurate and reliable methods that can enable the current situation to be portrayed realistically.
Bin Moamer emphasized that this collaboration fits the framework of the center’s role of promoting and consolidating the values of coexistence and national cohesion, as well as its effect on the developmental aspect, and social coexistence. This can be actualized through using the direct measuring tools that are considered one of the main fields that the Kingdom’s Vision of 2030 targets. It is also an extension of the efforts made by the department of studies and research in the field of developing indicators for national issues.
Bin Moamer also pointed out that the collaboration aims to benefit from international experiments and experiences in designing and building indicators, so that the Center can develop, construct, and find the best strategies in the field of consolidating the values of good sportsmanship, and decreasing the impact of sport intolerance. The collaboration also strives to decrease the animosity between fans, whilst addressing wrong behaviors, and emphasizing the value of coexistence, tolerance, and national cohesion.
According to the agreement, the United Nations Development Programme will offer technical support to King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue in building an indicator that will assist the Center in measuring the level of sportsmanship; this ensures that the collaboration is actualized gradually in a cooperative manner.
In addition, the agreement-which targets the younger generation, media, and sports clubs-, is also supported by several other entities, most notably The General Sports Authority.
