OHCHR and Saudi Human rights Commission cooperate to raise awareness on the UN Convention against Torture

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) jointly with the Saudi Human rights Commission have organized a two day symposium to enhance awareness on the UN Convention against Torture. The event was organized from 6- 7 January 2016 in Riyadh. In his opening remarks, the UN Resident Coordinator a.i. on behalf of UNCT, Mr. Firas Gharaibeh, appreciated the efforts of both the Saudi Human Rights Commission and OHCHR in strengthening human rights protection in Saudi Arabia.

UNDP training AlFaisal University students to help raise awareness on HIV/AIDS among youth

UNDP Saudi Arabia Country Office held a one-day workshop on HIV/AIDS Awareness with the participation of six medical students from Al-Faisal University. The workshop focused on creating awareness among peers and teenagers and most importantly to implement these activities for the University to raise awareness on HIV for an activity that they are planning to hold on campus for various schools in early December.

Youth innovate to address development challenges in the Arab region

The “First Social Innovation Camp for Youth from the Arab Region” was held for three days on 13 to 15 June 2015 in Amman, Jordan. The main purpose was to provide a platform for young women and men to examine key development challenges facing the region and suggest innovative solutions to address them. The camp is the first event of its kind to be organized on a regional level by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
