  • Youth innovate to address development challenges in the Arab region Jun 21, 2015

    The “First Social Innovation Camp for Youth from the Arab Region” was held for three days on 13 to 15 June 2015 in Amman, Jordan. The main purpose was to provide a platform for young women and men to examine key development challenges facing the region and suggest innovative solutions to address them. The camp is the first event of its kind to be organized on a regional level by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

    The planet will be facing a 40% shortfall in water supply by 2030, unless nations dramatically improve the management of this precious resource. This is the unavoidable conclusion reached in the 2015 United Nations World Water Development Report, which was presented during the World Environment Day event held by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Ministry of Water and Electricity.

    The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Ashok Nigam, strongly condemns the terrorist attack at a mosque in Qatif, in the town of al-Qudaih Saudi Arabia on 22 May 2015, resulting in the death of at least 21 people and injuring many others.

    During the reign of the late King Abdullah’s, Saudi women participation was heightened and we witnessed remarkable changes in the kingdom. Thirty women were appointed to the 150-member Shura Council. Women have also been elected to boards of chambers of commerce in previous years. Saudi women entered the private and public sector workforces and were able to achieve many of their ambitions.

    Paying tribute to the legacy of the late Saudi Arabian king Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the United Nations Secretary-General today looked forward to continued “fruitful cooperation” with the country's new king, Salman bin Abdulaziz, after a meeting in which the two discussed sustainable development, climate change and regional peace and security.

    The United Nations Development Programme Country Office in Saudi Arabia in partnership with Council of Saudi Chambers and the support of the UNCT hosted on 23 December 2014 a roundtable deliberative discussions titled "The role of the private sector in the post-2015 development agenda in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" with the participation of academics, consultants and businessmen and women.

  • UNDP and Warif Celebrates 2014 International Volunteer Day Dec 11, 2014

    The International Volunteer Day was set by United Nations on the 5th of December to celebrate volunteers and volunteer organizations’ efforts in raising awareness and the contribution they make to their communities. In 1985 the International Volunteer Day was designed to be an observance day by way of celebrating volunteerism. It is also a great opportunity for volunteers and volunteer organizations to promote their work for all the concern parties in their country.
