Capacity Development for the General Commission for Survey
What is the project about
This project intends to develop the national capacities in conducting geo-spatial surveys, generating multi-purpose knowledge from such surveys to efficiently boost national efforts in achieving the key directions of the Ninth Development Plan (2010-2014) with particular emphasis on balanced regional development, diversification of the economic base and enhancement of the competitive capacities.
The present 3-year project (for 2014-2016) is envisaged to support the GCS in its main mission of efficiently producing and marketing geo-spatial survey information and services. This outcome will be reached through three outputs as follows:
- Institutional and individual capacity development for two departments within the General Commission for Survey (GCS);
- Support to the implementation of the hydrographical survey programme for the Red Sea area, including procurement of survey equipment;
- Advisory services to the hydrographical surveys (through support of International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Hydrographical Organization (IHO), with particular focus on uniformity of nautical charts and documents as well as promotion of oceanographic science in Saudi Arabia.
